CAMPUS AND 12 Howard Community College A Decade of Being a Great College to Work For For 10 consecutive years, HCC has been named a Great College to Work For, according to the results from a comprehensive workplace survey released by The Chronicle of Higher Education. HCC is the only Maryland community college and one of just 24 community colleges across the country to have achieved this year's recognition. With a decade of winning this award, HCC is one of only two community colleges that have been recognized every year that community colleges have been eligible. "Ten years of the Great Colleges to Work For award is an extraordinary tribute to the faculty and staff of Howard Community College," said Dr. Kate Hetherington, president. "They work every day to transform the lives of students, while also showing respect and appreciation for one another. The positive and supportive culture makes HCC a great college for faculty, staff, and students." The Chronicle of Higher Education recognized HCC for success in the following categories: facilities, workspace and security; professional/career development programs; and respect and appreciation. Awards are based on a survey that is administered to a random sample of HCC faculty and staff, as well as a detailed institutional application process. The primary factor in determining whether an institution receives recognition is the employee feedback. Top Ranking as Best Two-Year College for Adult Learners The Washington Monthly has named Howard Community College (HCC) as one of the nation's best two-year colleges for adult learners for the third year in a row. HCC ranked in the top 20, with high scores for ease of transfer, flexibility of programs, and services for adult students. In 2016, Washington Monthly became the first publication to recognize two-year and four-year colleges for their service to adult students. HCC is the only Maryland community college to have earned a spot in the top 20 every year since the rankings began.
