A first-of-its-kind national scholarship program, the New Century Workforce Pathway Scholars, will help Howard support his goals. Sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two- year colleges, the $1,250 scholarship is for students at associate degree- granting institutions who plan to enter the workforce upon the completion of a degree or certificate. More than 2,000 students were nominated, and only one scholar was selected from each state. New Century Workforce Pathway Scholars are chosen for their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities, and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. Howard is a member of HCC's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, which is open to students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher who have completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework.
