These phrases are used frequently in conversations between Americans, on TV, on the radio, and in newspapers, but they can be very confusing for English learners. In this interactive class, you will learn commonly used vocabulary and American idioms while you improve your speaking skills. Students will gain an understanding of how Americans think and how this affects different aspects of the job such as communication, employee relationships, and teamwork. Students will also examine their own personal and cultural beliefs in relation to work and how this impacts their "survival" in the workplace. Finally, students will learn strategies for developing cultural intelligence and cultural competence. The students will utilize online videos, selected readings and research, activities, and discussions. $290. Course#YE-788. Tue 6:30pm-9:30pm May 14-Jun 25 (Hybrid) Professional Writing Professional English Certificate (Level 5+, Online) This online advanced-level ESL writing course will prepare professionals for business and professional writing. Work on various types of professional writing such as e-mail correspondence, conventions, memos, short reports, summaries, business letters, cover letters, and resumes. May 14-Jun 27 (Online) ESL Tutor Certification *NEW* (Level 6, Online) Learn about the challenges faced by adult English Language Learners (ELLs) and master strategies for making one-to-one instruction positive and effective. This hybrid training is ideal for tutors who want to work with adult ELLs in the US or abroad.
