70 Fall 2019 443-518-1700 howardcc.edu/ConEd The Unexpected Books of the Bible Students studying the Bible as literature oen react to some books with the question, "How did these ever get into the Bible?" For this reason, one might call the following works the Bible's unexpected books: Song of Solomon, Ecclesiastes, and Job. ey challenge the more conventional content of the Hebrew Bible/Christian Old Testament. is course will examine the backgrounds and themes of these books, including what we know about their authorship and time of composition, the biblical genres into which they fit, and the nature of their pathway into what became sacred scripture for two major religions. For the first class, you should read all of the Song of Solomon and Ecclesiastes (both short works). For the second class, you should read the following parts of the book of Job: Ch. 1-14, Ch. 19, Ch. 29-34, and Ch. 38-42. You should bring your Bibles with you to class. What Do I Pay? 60+ TUITION DISCOUNTS Maryland residents age 60+ receive a tuition waiver for many classes. Fees are not included. All classes will have a total course price listed, with the included fees listed beside it in parentheses. Courses that are not eligible for tuition waiver will be noted with either ** or the statement that there are no waivers. All course numbers that start with an XE are not eligible for tuition waivers. Unless otherwise noted, students age 60+ pay only the fees in parentheses. You must be 60 when you register for the class in order to receive the discount. Queen Nefertari was the first of the Great Royal Wives and great favorite of Ramesses II, one of the most powerful kings to rule Egypt. e tomb of Nefertari is one of the most beautifully painted tombs in all of Egypt and is oen referred to as the Sistine Chapel of Egypt. You will explore this tomb in detail, accompanying Queen Nefertari on her transition to the next life and the trials she endured on her spiritual journey. You will also explore other tombs in the Valley of the Queens to highlight the power of the Egyptians' belief in the aerlife and their unparalleled imagination and artistry as expressed in the tomb paintings.
