Orientation to Health Care Interpreting e orientation session includes an overview of the Health Care Interpreting Certificate Program components and requirements. e Health Care Interpreter's standard of practice, roles, func- tions and arenas are introduced. ere is also a language proficiency assessment that is required in order to take the Interpreting in Health Care course. $110. Sat 9am-1pm Jan 18 Interpreting in Health Care is course provides training for bilingual indi- viduals to develop the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary for effective language interpreta- tion in health care settings. Basic knowledge of common medical conditions, treatments, and procedures will be taught. Students will learn about bridging linguistic and cultural compe- tency between clients and providers, which is a vital component in the art of interpretation. e course allows students to develop advanced skills in ethical decision making, memory develop- ment, patient advocacy, and listening ability. By the end of the course students are able to analyze and contrast cultural influences on health beliefs, choose and demonstrate the appropriate inter - preting role based on the communication barriers of the speaker and solve ethical dilemmas by ap- plying the ethical decision-making process. $945.
