THE HYBRID EQUATION Online + Classroom = Hybrid Courses A recent community survey reveals Howard County adults prefer coursework delivered by a combination of online and classroom instruction, rather than completely over the Internet or in the classroom. HCC offers dozens of credit courses in this format, designated as "hybrid" with a symbol in each semester's published schedule of credit classes. Many students find it's the best 10K STUDENTS of both worlds to have the convenience HCC hit a milestone by registering a total of 10,081 students in credit classes in fall 2011 – as the structure of face-to-face class the first time in the college's 41-year history that enrollment in one semester reached 10,000. The college celebrated with cake and refreshments for faculty, staff, students, and guests, including a few words from HCC's first president, Dr. Al Smith. of learning on their own time as well meetings. COMMIT 2 COMPLETE In support of the national college completion agenda, HCC's Alpha Alpha Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society members canvassed the quad and educated fellow students on the importance of staying the course and completing a college credential before moving on to the workplace or a transfer institution. Over 250 students signed a Call to Action in this "Commit 2 Complete" awareness campaign. Howard Community College Spring 2012 | Pathways 11
