Student Records Privacy and Updates e Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) allows HCC to release student directory information. Directory information includes name, address, email, photographs, high school attended, phone numbers, areas of study, enrollment dates, degrees, honors and awards or lack thereof, participation in officially recognized college activities, or sports and athletic team members' weight and height. To restrict HCC from disclosing this information, visit the Office of Records, Registration and Veterans Affairs (RCF-233). Students are responsible for any and all actions taken on their student records; this includes updating contact information, registration, submitting coursework, and making payment arrangements. All changes to the student record must be done in writing or through myHCC. Students are not permitted to share their usernames or passwords to college-assigned accounts to ensure their identity remains both protected and authenticated. What Every HCC Student Needs to Know HCC Email Your email address is the only one used by the college for email communications. Visit howardcc.edu/email for information on how to access and set up your email on your smartphone. Choose the forward and delete function to send your HCC email to an external email you frequently check. myHCC versus Canvas Use myHCC to check email; register, drop, or withdraw from classes; pay your bill; view your grades; and order a transcript. Canvas is for coursework. It is the primary course delivery system for online classes and is used by many classroom instructors at HCC as well. Canvas is the home for course materials, quizzes, and class activities. Log on to Canvas through myHCC. Make sure you use Google Chrome for best functionality! Mobile Alert System HCC's Mobile Alert system enables you to receive instant notification of important campus information and emergency announcements.
