Shelter-In-Place (Tornado, Environmental Hazards) • Notification will be via Mobile Alert System and on-campus systems • Assist in alerting others in the vicinity, but do not jeopardize your safety or the safety of others • Close all doors and windows to the outside if possible • If in laboratories, cease operations and close fume hoods • For tornadoes, move to Tornado Safety Areas–basements, interior rooms and halls away from glass • Remain alert for further instructions and updates 3. ACADEMIC PROCEDURES LEARNING OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY Howard Community College (HCC) is committed to the philosophy of educational accountability. In order to determine that students are attaining the knowledge and skills appropriate to various courses and programs, regular and planned assessment activities are on going and include standardized assessments, placement tests, faculty- developed evaluations, focus sessions, and surveys. These measures may require the use of class time. When that is the case, students are expected to participate. Confidentiality of responses is ensured. Entering freshmen and graduating students may be required to take a standardized test of general education skills. GRADING AND ATTENDANCE POLICY The methods for evaluation and grading within a course are clearly stated in the course syllabus. Evaluation procedures are objective and appropriately related to the course's objectives and content. HCC does not have a college-wide attendance policy.
