SERVICES 101 offers instruction in academic, study and college survival skills. The students have the opportunity to become familiar with members of the HCC faculty and staff and with the HCC campus. During the academic year, the students are included in Project Access events that occur at HCC, including a dance, a luncheon and a holiday party. Other events that occur during the academic year are the Parent/Student Information Session for interested students, the College Fair for Students with Disabilities, and the Project Access Conference for Parents and Professionals. VOCATIONAL SUPPORT TEAM The Vocational Support Services Team (VSST) Program is designed for students in vocational/career programs who are having academic difficulties or who have disabilities. The VSST Program provides free small group and individual tutoring in vocational courses, such as nursing, accounting, and electronics. Group test reviews for vocational courses, and study skills and test-taking workshops are also available. Tutoring services are provided by the LAC, Room RCF-340. The program assists students with disabilities majoring in vocational/career programs in arranging accommodations and specialized equipment. Career counseling and job placement assistance are also available (Room RCF-302), Counseling and Career Services Office. ADMISSIONS AND ADVISING SERVICES Room RCF-242 443-518-1200 TTY users call Maryland Relay 7-1-1 howardcc.edu/admissions Email adm-adv@howardcc.edu ADMISSIONS The Office of Admissions and Advising counsels prospective and newly admitted students including international and transfer students as well as students considering admission to the clinical portion of the nursing and allied health programs. Other services provided by the office are transfer credit evaluation, course clearances based on work completed at other postsecondary institutions as well as information sessions for nursing and other allied health career programs. ACADEMIC ADVISING Students are responsible to meet with an academic advisor each semester and more often if needed to determine if they are meeting the degree requirements for the catalog year in which they were admitted. Working with an academic advisor each student will develop an academic plan which will provide the student a pathway to graduation and transfer. Advisors provide students with information and recommendations about various areas of study, course selection, course clearances, change of degree program information, transfer information and services which will lead to academic success. First time, degree- seeking students are required to complete college composition and the appropriate college level mathematics course within the first 24 college level credit hours. First time, degree-seeking students who place into the developmental math or English sequence must complete an appropriate college level math or english course the subsequent semester following the completion of the highest level developmental math or english course.
