108 FILE STORAGE ON GOOGLE ® DRIVE As an HCC credit student, you can store your class work on Google Drive and access it from anywhere with internet access. Simply visit http:// gdocs.howardcc.edu and (if prompted) log in using your HCC Login ID and password. If you are already logged into a campus computer, you will be automatically logged into Google Drive. For the most seamless use of Google Drive, use the latest version of Google Chrome as your browser. With Chrome, you can drag and drop files and folders from your desktop into Google Drive and watch them update immediately. You will have access to your Google Drive storage as long as you are currently enrolled in HCC courses. OPEN ACCESS COMPUTERS In addition to the computer study labs, students can log in to use computers in the Verizon Cyber Cafe located inside the Cafe on the Quad. Open computers are also provided on the first floor of Duncan Hall lounge, outside of Student Life offices (SA201), in the Health Sciences building and the Athletic and Fitness Center. Printing is not available from open areas. Be sure to log off when you finish working. LAPTOP LOANS The Technology Help Desk may lend you a laptop to use for periods from 4 hours to 24 hours. To check out a laptop, meet with staff inside the CL-129 computer lab, Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during spring and fall semesters. You will be asked to read and sign a contract acknowledging your responsibilities in caring for the equipment. This program is open to approved full time credit students who abide by the terms of the contract. TECHNOLOGY HELP DESK Help Desk staff are available to assist students having problems with passwords, email, myHCC, Canvas, wireless access, online registration, printing, software and other technology. Drop by the Help Desk located inside the computer labs in Room DH- 110 or CL-129, call 443-518-4444, email helpdesk@howardcc.edu, or visit howardcc.edu/helpdesk for information, online forms and FAQs. ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING AND PEER-TO-PEER FILE SHARING NOTICE Students are responsible for complying with section 668.14 of the HEOA (Higher Education Opportunity Act), which prohibits illegal peer-to-peer file sharing. Downloading or sharing copyrighted music, videos, or games without permission from the copyright owner can result in: • A criminal penalty of 5 years in prison and $250,000 in fines, even for a first offense. • A civil penalty of $750 or higher per illegal song The college may use several methods to detect and deter illegal P2P file sharing, including: • A URL filtering device to identify, block and redirect any discovered illegal P2P traffic. • Network traffic monitoring to identify, trace and investigate continuous high bandwidth users. • Reporting students who engage in suspected illegal behaviors for investigation and possible disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct.
