History comes alive as you explore the times of the historical American Girl dolls: Native American tribal life (Kaya), colonial America (Felicity), life on a southwestern rancho (Josefina), pioneer life (Kirsten), Civil War and freedom (Addy), life at the turn of the 20th century (Samantha), the immigrant experience in NYC (Rebecca), the Great Depression (Kit), the "rock and roll" 50s (Mary Ellen), the civil rights movement of the 60s (Melody), and the groovy 70s (Julie). Experience first-hand activities girls of the past would have done, including arts and cras, cooking, sewing, games, music, and/or literature. Personalize a cookbook with recipes made throughout the week. Ages 7-10. Discover the joy of baking! Learn how to make homemade baked goods from scratch! See how satisfying it can be to measure and mix ingredients together, put them in the oven and wait for the magic to begin. Baking is also educational, utilizing reading comprehension, math and chemistry in a fun way. Some of the tasty treats on the menu to be made are different types of cookies, cupcakes, brownies as well as decorating with frosting. While waiting for the goodies to come out of the oven, you will make some related cras such as a doll apron, oven mitt, and a personalized cookbook with all recipes made throughout the camp. Ages 8-10. Continue your quest to make the next viral app! Whether you want to move past the basic techniques learned in App Attack or want to jump right in, we are ready for you! Choose from a selection of different web-based (HTML5) mobile apps and explore more in-depth programming concepts. Projects will be accessible on a Black Rocket site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to App Stores not included. No prior experience is necessary and you do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. You will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.
