2 Welcome Welcome to the Music Institute at Howard Community College. If you are new to us or if you are a returning student, it is our goal to provide you with a high quality musical experience whether you are looking for a class, an ensemble or private lessons. Our award winning faculty as well as our staff members are happy to assist you in any way we can. By doing so, it is our aim to provide you a safe, stimulating and engaging setting for your musical endeavors. TMI is entering its fourteenth year of existence. We continually investigate new opportunities to expand our class and ensemble offerings. TMI is currently working with other local partners and is hopeful that new ensemble opportunities will be created for the coming Spring term. This past summer TMI ran a number of youth Summer Enrichment Programs including a full day class called Flute-a-rama which was a big hit with the youngsters as was two weekly offering of a percussion class called Drummin' Dragons. This year we will further refine and add other engaging weekly summer programs for the youth of the greater Columbia area. Our audiences enjoyed performances by two of our multi-week programs, Gemini Piano Trio Chamber Workshop and Little Patuxent Opera Institute. The GPT Chamber Workshop once again proved that chamber music performance and appreciation is very much "alive and well". The collaborative efforts of GPT's faculty members and participants resulted in rousing concerts both on and off Howard Community College's campus. The Little Patuxent Opera Institute (LPOI) presented an accomplished production entitled "Love Gone Astray" featuring a potpourri of opera scenes as well as our largest operatic offering to date, an abridged version of Mozart's Cosi fan tutte sung in both English and Italian by LPOI's fourteen emerging young singers. The Institute continues to expand our social media presence with regular updates on our Facebook and YouTube pages. Our YouTube page continues to archive and promote past performances by our talented students. The Music Institute continues its strong symbiotic relationship with Howard Community College's Music Department, its faculty and area partnerships as well as the immeasurable support we receive from the Horowitz Performing Arts Center and its staff. Our enrollment continues to be strong with an overall student enrollment increase of sixteen percent when compared to last year's enrollment. We are very appreciative that the Institute's reach into the greater Columbia community continues to expand. We would like to thank our students, families and friends for your continued assistance in spreading the word about our Institute and its mission: to create a warm, encouraging environment for you to successfully explore your musical goals while enjoying Music for a Lifetime.
