Please note: Registration by May 15 is recommended (final registration deadline: June 26th). Early registration helps the teachers tailor the program to the students (who will be asked to submit a sample of their playing) and distribute music in time for them to learn it before the program begins. July 17—July 21 or July 24—July 28 Music Therapy Group—Social Skills (9:15am—11:30am) (MUS 021-101; 9656), Tuition 160/Fee 40 (admin./materials) This week-long summer enrichment program will offer music therapy for children with special needs in a fun, peer group setting. It will be led by a board-certified music therapist. The program will help to foster positive peer interaction, creativity, a sense of accomplishment, and skills working independently and in a group. Students will enjoy activities such as singing, playing musical instruments, dancing and moving to music, using props such as scarves and puppets, composing a group song, and making a simple instrument to take home. Come make new friends, learn new skills, and have fun with music! July 17—July 21, continuing July 24—July 28 Gumbo Jam Bands, Ages 10-18 (1pm—4:30pm) (MUS 076-201; 9654), Tuition 360/Fee 25 Designed for the intermediate player who is interested in a full day, two week long ensemble experience emphasizing rock, blues, country and popular music styles. The program will culminate with a performance in the Horowitz Center's Smith Theatre. The Gumbo Jam Bands caters to intermediate level students ages ten to eighteen who have a desire to take their musical talents out of the practice room and into an authentic live band experience. Amplifiers, keyboards, mics and drum set are all provided. July 24—June 28 Drummin' Dragons, Grades 6-12 (8:30am—12pm) (MUS 059-101; 9655), Tuition 180/Fee 25 This week long music enrichment program will offer young percussionists the resources to take their percussion playing to the next level. Through clinics and masterclasses from the area's leading percussionists and educators, students will be exposed to a wide variety of percussion topics including snare drum, mallet percussion, timpani, drum set, percussion ensemble, and more! A grand finale concert in the Horowitz Center's Monteabaro Recital Hall will close out the week. Come be a part of this amazing week of percussion! Drummin' Dragons: Play with Fire!
