Sat 9am-1pm Feb 3 Hickory Ridge Interpreting in Health Care is course provides training for bilingual individuals to develop the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary for effective language interpretation in health care settings. Basic knowledge of common medical conditions, treatments, and procedures will be taught. Students will learn about bridg- ing linguistic and cultural competency between clients and providers, which is a vital component in the art of interpreta- tion. e course allows students to develop advanced skills in ethical decision making, memory development, patient advocacy, and listening ability. By the end of the course students are able to analyze and contrast cultural influences on health beliefs, choose and demonstrate the appropriate interpreting role based on the communication barriers of the speaker and solve ethical dilemmas by applying the ethical decision-making process. $875.
