50 Winter 2018 443-518-1700 howardcc.edu/ConEd Meet Our Instructor Michele Diekelman Michele Diekelman became a Franchophile in high school when she began studying French in Owasso, Oklahoma. During her junior year of college at the University of Tulsa, she studied in Grenoble, France and aer finishing her B.A. in French and International Studies, she spent a year in Bordeaux, France working as a Fulbright English teacher at a college prep high school. Subsequently, she earned a doctorate in Sec- ond Language Acquisition Studies at the University of Illinios Champaign-Urbana. She also taught high school French in Illinois and in Southern California for 10 years and has continued to spend time in France whenever possible. Michele has traveled in France (especially Paris) with dozens of American high school students, college students, and adults. Visiting French places with other people has taught Michele a great deal about how to help others get the most out of their travel experiences. Personal Enrichment Languages American Sign Language I Learn ASL visual-gestural communication techniques, visual discrimination, and visual memory exercises. ASL questions, commands, and simple sentences are featured. Information about the deaf and hard of hearing community is provided. e text is a combination textbook and video.
