CAMPUS AND 12 Howard Community College Students Win National Scholarships for Language Study Two students' dreams of studying overseas came true, thanks to competitive scholarships they received this year. Hannah Shulse, a 2017 graduate in Asian studies, received the 2017 Critical Language Scholarship, a fully-funded summer overseas language and cultural immersion program funded by the U.S. Department of State. She participated in intensive Chinese courses in Changchun, China. HCC student Kellie Carswell received the U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study in Naha, Japan. A student in gaming and simulation design, Carswell hopes study of the Japanese language will give her a step ahead in the job search. New Partners at Laurel College Center Bowie State University and Morgan State University recently signed agreements with Howard Community College (HCC) and Prince George's Community College (PGCC) to provide opportunities for more students to earn bachelor's degrees at the Laurel College Center (LCC). Located in Prince George's County, LCC was established in 2001 as a partnership between HCC and PGCC. LCC has since become a Maryland regional higher education center, offering courses and degree programs at all levels of study from a number of colleges and universities. Bowie State will offer a bachelor's degree in business administration, and Morgan State will offer bachelor's degree programs in engineering and psychology. The new courses are expected to start in fall 2018, pending Maryland Higher Education Commission approval. The two universities join three other universities with programs at the LCC: the University of Maryland, College Park, University of Maryland School of Nursing, and University of Maryland University College. p Prince George's Community College President Charlene Dukes, Bowie State University President Aminta Breaux, and Howard Community College President Kathleen Hetherington p Prince George's Community College President Charlene Dukes, Morgan State University President David Wilson, and Howard Community College President Kathleen Hetherington p Hannah Shulse p Kellie Carswell
