Before moving to Maryland, an
American military service member in
Germany receives virtual advising from
Howard Community College (HCC).
A student intern's experience with the
Howard County Police Department
opens her eyes to a career in law
enforcement. And a young man whose
plan was to get out of college quickly
becomes a peer leader in a campus Black
male leadership program.
All three students benefitted from
HCC's focused effort to help more
students complete college. When Dr.
Kate Hetherington became president of
the college in 2007, she made college
completion a top priority, encouraging
faculty and staff to develop innovative
instructional techniques and support
services aimed at bolstering student
success. She also launched a team of
faculty and staff from across the college
who examine practices and recommend
improvements that will support student
completion.
