You will work alongside a dental provider in a local dental office, using concepts and skills acquired during your classroom training, such as universal precautions, infection control measures, effective communication skills, and preparing patients and instruments for dental exams. Working as part of the dental staff team, you will gain first-hand experience in the profes- sional, legal and ethical requirements of the dental office setting. Training covers all required skills to become a certified pharmacy technician along with significant elements of professionalism and employer expectations in addition to required off-site pharmacy shadowing and/or practicum assignments prior to the externship placement. An externship per- forming pharmacy technician daily tasks consisting of 160 hours (no less than 20-25 hours per week during externship placement) at local area pharmacies is required to complete this class. A completed Student Health Profile is required by the eighth week of class. Cost of a state criminal background check ($65-70) and drug test (approx. $65) required at least 30 days before externship placement is not included in the tuition/fees of this course. Externship eligibility is in part dependent upon a criminal background check and drug test- ing.
