<< DEPARTMENTS HOROWITZ HAPPENINGS GETTING TO CARNEGIE HALL Three HCC faculty members played Carnegie Hall this October, with a sold-out concert New York Concert Review described as "a model of classical elegance and restraint." In addition to being award-winning performers, The Gemini Piano Trio, which formed in 1994, is made up of three active teachers. Cellist Bemjamin Myers is associate professor of music, and pianist Hsiu-Hui Wang and violinist Sheng-Tsung Wang are each adjunct instructors at HCC. Save yourself the trip to NYC and catch an upcoming performance of the Gemini Trio at the Horowitz Center. PETER & ELIZABETH HOROWITZ VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS CENTER Reflecting the values of namesakes Peter and Elizabeth, the mission of HCC's Horowitz Center is to promote awareness, sensitivity, and a life-long relationship with the arts. Now in its sixth year, the Horowitz Center is the instructional facility for the college's arts and humanities programs, as well as the county's hub for professional and student art exhibits and performances. Gemini Piano Trio. NOW SHOWING AT A CAMPUS NEAR YOU The HCC film program, in partnership with the Columbia Film Society, offered two popular film series this fall, free to the public. "The Lives of the Artists through Film" explored the historic and cinematic world of Michelangelo, Frida Kahlo, Goya, Van Gogh, and Degas. And the International Film Festival celebrated French cinema, showcasing five superb French films. Everything from Italian, African, and Scandinavian films to Hitchcock, documentary, and avant-garde movies are shown and studied in the exciting, diverse array of film courses offered at HCC. The film studies program focuses on history, development, theory, and criticism as well as the principles of film-making and production, according to Marie Westhaver, film studies director. Courses in 2011 include "The Golden Age of Hollywood," "Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Films" and "The Films of Woody Allen." 24 Pathways | Howard Community College Spring 2011
