ADVANCEMENT IN ACTION
STUDENTS SPEAK OUT
HCC students and staff with Delegates Shane Pendergrass, Frank Turner, and Guy Guzzone.
HCC students met with state legislators in Annapolis at the annual Student Advocacy Day on February 9, requesting support for Maryland's
community colleges. They joined representatives from the state's 16 community colleges to urge lawmakers to approve the Governor's
proposed 2012 fiscal year budget.
Students discussed the benefits that community colleges offer, including educating 500,000 Marylanders and awarding 12,000 associate
degrees and program certificates annually; charging low-cost tuition; teaching career-oriented classes; retraining those who are currently
employed for advancement or career changes; and preparing people out of work for new opportunities.
