PRESIDENT'S GALA SURPASSES FUNDRAISING GOAL On December 4, The President's Gala, presented by M&T Bank, raised approximately $145,000 for student scholarships, far surpassing the goal of $100,000. More than 350 people attended the elegant event held at the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center. Guests enjoyed dinner and dancing as well as silent and live auctions. HCC President Hetherington thanked the guests and said: "Forty years ago, we opened our doors, offering classes to 600 students. Today, as the county's college, we have had almost 700,000 students take credit and noncredit courses. HCC and its students are very fortunate to have such committed community members working on their behalf." All proceeds benefit the HCCEF scholarships. HCC NURSING SCHOLARSHIP BENEFIT June 4, 6-10 p.m. Vic Broccolino, CEO of Howard County General Hospital, emcees a live auction at the President's Gala. HCC and Jill and Pat McCuan host guest speaker, Dr. Ben Carson, for a cocktail reception, seated dinner, and open bar. All proceeds endow scholarships for the HCC nursing program. Event tickets $125 per GIVING THANKS TO DONORS person. HCC students took the Thanksgiving theme to heart. On November 12, student scholarship recipients shared their personal stories and gratitude with donors at the tenth annual Student-Donor Luncheon. The HCC student services office and the HCC development office cosponsored the event. At this year's luncheon, three students spoke about the significant impact the scholarships have had on their ability to achieve their educational dreams. The speakers were Scott Goins, Silas Craft Collegian; Chelsea Green, James W. Rouse Scholar; and Johnner Reilly, who benefits from the Ellicott City Kiwanis Club Endowment and Phi Theta Kappa Endowment and the Riparius Construction Scholarship. HCC GRAND PRIX September 24, 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The college's premier scholarship fundraiser is a day of family fun featuring world-class equestrian showjumping, games, food, and more at beautiful Marama Farm in Clarksville, Maryland.
