THE MUSIC IN YOUR COMMUNITY The Music Institute – or TMI as it's familiarly called – is the noncredit community music school administered by HCC's academic music department. Now in its 10th year, TMI has been meeting the musical needs and interests of the Baltimore-Washington area. Whether you're a young child experiencing formal music training for the first time, a high school student preparing for conservatory studies, an adult wishing to return to the instrument set aside decades ago, a musician wanting to advance skills or make music with others – you can get there from here. TMI offers a full menu of voice and instrument private lessons, classes, coaching, ensemble performance options, and music therapy, with quality instructors at affordable rates. The highly-trained and award-winning musician-educators of HCC's music department make up the core of The Music Institute faculty. Check the TMI website for updates on their distinctive offerings in summer 2012, including enrichment programs for youth, and vocal arts workshops from the Little Patuxent Opera Institute. HCC's recent exhibit in The Rouse Company Foundation Gallery, The Art of Seduction: Exquisitely Crafted Temptations, explored this subject with 39 artists from across the country featuring work in ceramics, fibers, glass, jewelry, metals, wood, and mixed media. As curator Gail M. Brown described, these unique, contemporary, handmade objects "…offer enticements – tactilely in seductive material palettes and processes; emotionally by the attraction of their forms and frames of reference; and intellectually by the power and context of their potent ideas."
