T HE HOWARD COUNTY POETRY & LITERATURE SOCIETY (HoCoPoLitSo) recognizes the world's rich heritage of literary bloodlines, and celebrates the diversity of cultures running deep with poetry and literature through their veins. HoCoPoLitSo's 2014-2015 season includes its 37 th annual Irish Evening; the 40 th anniversary of HoCoPoLitSo with former National Poet Laureate Rita Dove and a premiere of scenes from the documentary Sonata Mulattica featuring Dove with contemporary and historical "youngbloods" in the classical music arena, Joshua Coyne and George Bridgetower; and in partnership with Howard Community College, the 7 th annual Blackbird Poetry Festival featuring student artists with "poetry in their veins" and a headlining acclaimed poet or poets. In addition, HoCoPoLitSo celebrates Forty Years of Words, Wisdom and Wonder throughout the season and will release its second volume of poetry by a diverse group of nationally and internationally recognized poets who have been featured at HoCoPoLitSo. A Word of Difference: Rita Dove Celebrates History and Creativity Wednesday, October 22, 7:30 pm Monteabaro Recital Hall In celebration of HoCoPoLitSo's 40 th year, former National Poet Laureate Rita Dove will read from her acclaimed most-recent book of poems, Sonata Mulattica, about the historical Afro-European violinist George Bridgetower. Extended scenes from a documentary of the same name, inspired by the book, will premiere at the event. The film features Dove with "youngbloods" Bridgetower and contemporary virtuoso Joshua Coyne.
