CAMPUS AND 16 Howard Community College Howard Community College Honored Record Seven Times as "Great College to Work For" Howard Community College is one of the best colleges to work for, according to the latest survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. This year marks the seventh consecutive year that the national higher education publication has selected HCC, making it one of only four community colleges in the country – and the only community college in Maryland – to have achieved this record status. The Great Colleges to Work For recognition program is based on the results of a survey completed by employees at 281 colleges and universities across the country, including a sample of HCC faculty and staff. Colleges and universities that stand out in comparison to their peers are selected for the Honor Roll. HCC is the only Maryland community college to have earned a spot on this coveted list for 2015, receiving recognition in the following categories: collaborative governance; compensation and benefits; confidence in senior leadership; diversity; facilities, workspace and security; professional/career- development programs; respect and appreciation; and work/life balance. Dual Enrollment Increases at Maryland Community Colleges According to the Maryland Association of Community Colleges, significantly more Maryland high school students are earning college credits before graduating from high school. Dual enrollments at Maryland community colleges, including Howard Community College, jumped 20 percent in fall 2014 compared to the prior year. Dual enrollment programs have a long history in Maryland, and were strongly supported by the legislature with passage of Maryland's Career and College Readiness and College Completion Act of 2013. Howard Community College's Early College program (see page 4) and other dual enrollment options allow students to earn college credit while still in high school.
