As we enter the 11 th Howard Community College Concert Season in 2016- 2017, we feel blessed to be able to continue to share our passion for and love of music with you. We hope you have found our programming uplifting and satisfying. As you read through our offerings of this season, we hope you will do so with a pencil in hand, lingering over the description of each concert and marking your calendar with the ones you just can't miss. When planning our Guest Artist Series, we have students of music foremost in mind in deciding what to program. Whether it is listening to, and working with, Ralph Votapek, the first Gold-Medalist of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, or, working in an intimate setting with David Ballou, a jazz trumpeter, CD-producer and composer, our goal is always to educate, engage and inspire. This year, our Guest Artist Series expands to present Papageno!, an abbreviated version of Mozart's Magic Flute, for those young in age and young at heart, to engage them in a magical experience. Our Faculty Concert Series continues to draw upon the stellar Music Faculty at HCC. We are fortunate that in addition to bringing technical knowledge to the classrooms and lessons, many of our faculty are award-winning artists and in-demand performing musicians. From solo recitals to chamber and concerto concerts, music lovers will experience the excellence of our faculty all season long. Many of the faculty concerts embrace the 2016-2017 Horowitz Center programming theme, "Chaos." "In the Beginning" features Milhaud's La creation du monde which brings together the swirling chaos of the French music in the early 1920's with the beauty of jazz. In "Creative Chaos, Clarity, and the Clarinet," clarinetist Kyle Coughlin seeks to answer
