H Mystery historians have asked why respectable English women have been so good at murder. is is particularly true in the classic early days of the detective story when writers like Agatha Christie got their start. According to some, the grande dame of this group is Dorothy L. Sayers. Her novel, Gaudy Night, is billed as one of the best mystery stories ever. is class will explore the multi-faceted career of Sayers, one of the first women to attend Oxford, a writer of novels, short stories, essays, and plays, and a translator of Dante. Students should read Gaudy Night before coming to class. You will explore it as a mystery novel, as a novel of ideas, and discuss whether it deserves its reputation as one of the best of its genre. She is a trained image consultant and attended the Protocol School of Washington where she became certified in corporate etiquette. A concentrated interest in positive psychology resulted in her selection as a featured speaker at the Harvard Club's 2008 Annual Conference in Boston presenting on "Positive Psychology in the Workplace." She is a dynamic, enthusiastic speaker and motivator. Currently she is the Head of Operations for the Anne Arundel and Howard County areas for Home Care Assistance and has a passion for advocacy and a desire to improve the quality of life for her clients.
